Understanding Patterns
Exploring the patterns that keep showing up, where they may come from, and what could help you move forward.

Sometimes the things we want to change once helped us cope.

You might find yourself thinking, “Why do I keep doing this?” or “Why do I react like this when I know it doesn’t help?”

Maybe you keep ending up in similar relationships, putting other people before yourself, overthinking everything, shutting down when things get difficult or turning to food, alcohol, substances or other ways of coping.

These patterns often have something underneath them. The ways we cope, react and protect ourselves can be shaped by many different experiences throughout our lives, from things that happened growing up, to relationships, trauma, loss, domestic abuse or other difficult experiences.

Understanding where a pattern comes from doesn’t mean blaming the past. It can help you make sense of yourself in the present, recognising what triggers you, what you might be trying to protect yourself from and what you actually need.

Because when you begin to understand why, you can start to change what happens next.

Understanding our patterns doesn’t always happen in one big moment. Sometimes it starts with recognising yourself in something you read, noticing a familiar reaction, or beginning to question why certain things keep happening.

I regularly share simple posts around patterns, trauma, relationships, emotions and the ways we learn to cope, helping you think a little more about what might be underneath the way you feel or respond.

If something here has made you think, you can continue exploring these ideas over on my Instagram page.
